The Good Food People (GFP) program has officially begun, marking an exciting step forward in supporting healthier store environments in remote communities.

Led by ALPA in collaboration with Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) and Outback Stores (OBS), the national program brings together three leading organisations with a shared commitment to strengthening food security and health outcomes.

This investment will support the creation of 106 new roles in remote community stores over the 3-year program, with 21 positions available this financial year. Stores will employ a dedicated Good Food Person — a First Nations team member whose core role is to support health and nutrition in their community through their local stores.

First Good Food People recruited

With the program now underway, the first cohort of Good Food People has been recruited across all three organisations. This milestone highlights the strong momentum behind the program and the enthusiasm from teams on the ground.

Participants are embracing their training, working through foundational knowledge units with support from qualified nutritionists. A key strength of the program is the combination of theory and hands-on learning, allowing Good Food People to apply their knowledge directly in-store.

Congratulations to the below ALPA Good Food People on their enrolment in the program:

  • Keshayla Wunungmurra (Gapuwiyak)

Next steps for the program

Looking ahead, Good Food People will continue progressing through their training, building their skills and confidence in-store. Regular check-ins between ALPA, OBS and CEQ will support the program’s rollout, providing an opportunity to share insights, discuss challenges and learn from each other. There is strong excitement around supporting participants as they continue to learn and take the next steps in their journey.
